The Little Switzerland Spring Splash is the ultimate season-ending bash that transforms the Slinger slopes into a high-energy beach party. Known as the "Slush Cup" or "Pond Skim," this annual tradition marks the transition from winter goggles to summer shades, celebrating the final days of the ski season with a mix of daring athleticism and hilarious wipeouts.

The Main Event: Pond Skimming

The centerpiece of the Spring Splash is the Pond Skim, where brave (and often costume-clad) skiers and snowboarders attempt to defy physics. Participants straight-line it down a slushy run to gain enough momentum to skim across a custom-built, ice-cold pool of water at the base of the hill.

  • The Goal: Make it to the other side bone-dry.
  • The Reality: Spectacular splashes and "yard sales" that keep the crowd roaring.
  • The Style: Costumes are a MUST—past years have seen everything from superheroes and dinosaurs to retro 80s neon onesies and even "human penguins."
  • Awards: Prizes are handed out not just for the best "skim," but also for the Best Costume and the Most Epic Wipeout.

BBQ, Music, & Tradition

Beyond the skimming, the Spring Splash typically features:

  • Live Music: Local favorites (like the bands mentioned earlier) often provide the backdrop for the day's festivities.
  • Food & Drink Specials: Expect outdoor grilling, seasonal craft beers, and specialty cocktails designed for a sunny day on the patio.
  • A Rail Jam: Throw down in the 41 Park for one last weekend of competition and fun.
