We're headed into the heart of December and it's been an amazing start with early season snow that continues to refresh our hill with amazing conditions.  This week I'll touch on a change to our December 13 & 14 hours (brrr cold), some family programming, one more snowmaking push and the upcoming holidays!

Cold Coming - Bundle Up

This weekend, Mother Nature is turning up the cold! While we are thrilled for the fantastic snow conditions this weather helps create, we want to ensure the safety and comfort of both our dedicated staff and you, our amazing guests. We've made the strategic decision to close early at 6:00 PM on both Saturday, December 13th, & Sunday, December 14th.

Saturday 6pm Early Closure: Prioritizing Safety

On Saturday, December 13th, the wind chills are predicted to drop to a level that requires extra caution. Since we are very early into our season, we are going to err on the side of safety for everyone and close at 6:00 PM. Please make sure you bundle up properly to enjoy the great daytime conditions!

Sunday 6pm Early Closure: Safety due to Snowmaking!

While Sunday's nighttime temperatures won't be quite as severe, we are still committed to the 6:00 PM closing time. We are seizing this opportune cold air to launch a strategic snowmaking effort all night long! We don't need a huge, facility-wide blanket of snow just yet—instead, we'll be targeting key areas! Look for fresh snow in our two terrain parks, Expo and Happy Trails, as well as other critical locations where we wish to build strong, deep piles that will help guarantee a long and fantastic season ahead! We prefer to run the snow guns when the slopes are clear, and this early closure ensures we can deliver a pristine product for you to enjoy next week!

Stay Warm, Ski Hard: Essential Cold Weather Tips

So, even with the early 6:00 PM closing, the slopes will be FANTASTIC during the day! Don't let the cold keep you inside! When you conquer the chill, you get to enjoy some of the best snow conditions of the season. Here are the essential tips to keep you warm, comfortable, and having a blast while you're hitting the slopes this weekend:

  • Layer Up, Start Low: The secret to staying warm is managing moisture, and that starts with your socks! Ditch the cotton and wear wool or synthetic socks. Cotton holds moisture, which makes your feet cold. A single pair of good wool or synthetic socks is better than two pairs of cotton ones.
  • Cover Every Bit of Skin: Exposed skin loses heat incredibly fast in the windchill. A face mask or balaclava is non-negotiable for protecting your cheeks, nose, and chin. Wear goggles to protect your eyes. Don't forget insulated gloves or mitts (mitts are generally warmer!).
  • The Pocket Power-Up: Give yourself an instant heat boost! Bring hand and toe warmers and place them strategically. Put them on the top of your toes (not the bottom) and keep them in your gloves. Use them before you start feeling cold, not after.
  • Take Warm-Up Breaks: Don't push yourself until you're shivering! Schedule regular breaks to come inside, grab a hot chocolate, and warm up your core. Even 10–15 minutes indoors can recharge you and make the next hour outside feel fantastic. Staying fueled and hydrated is also key!

The nice thing is that we have all of these awesome things in our Pro Shop! Base layers and head covers from companies like Blackstrap and Turtle Fur, plus hand warmers and of course do some Christmas Shopping too!

Terrain-Based Learning = Perfect for the Entire Family

Today our team is out putting in our Terrain Based Learning area off of our two conveyor lifts.

Terrain-Based Learning (TBL) is a revolutionary and highly effective method designed to make learning to ski or snowboard faster, more intuitive, and significantly less intimidating for everyone, from young children to first-time adults!

Instead of struggling with difficult flat-ground drills, TBL uses specially shaped snow features to naturally guide you through the process:

  • How It Works: TBL uses interactive, sculpted snow features like gentle waves (rollers), banked turns, and mini-pipes.
  • The Adult Advantage: TBL takes the fear and awkwardness out of the first few hours. The terrain naturally helps you control your speed and maintain balance, allowing adults to feel successful immediately and build confidence quickly.
  • The Kid Advantage: For younger learners, the features feel like a fun playground, not a rigid classroom! They naturally learn balance and movement patterns organically through play, making the entire experience enjoyable.

The TBL progression allows all students to transition smoothly: starting on flats, moving to gentle waves (rollers), progressing to banked turns, and finally graduating to linking confident turns on the main slopes—all without the fear of uncontrolled speed or difficult stops. It's the most effective way to start your lifelong passion for skiing or snowboarding!
